Charcters
Viola (Cesario) A woman of Messaline and the twin sister of Sebastian. She is shipwrecked off the coast of Illyria, separated from her brother and afraid he may be dead. With the help of the Captain, she disguises herself as a page and takes on the name Cesario. She goes on to serve Duke Orsino, who orders Cesario to woo the Countess Olivia for him (who is in a seven year vow of grief). Not knowing she is a woman in disguise, Olivia falls in love with Cesario, all the while Viola has fallen in love with the Duke.
Sebastian- The twin brother of Viola, who also finds himself on the coast of Illyria. With the aid of Antonio, he finds himself in the kingdom of Orsino. This is where he stumbles upon Olivia who proposes to him (thinking him to be Cesario), though confused, he agrees.
Olivia- A beautiful and wealthy noble woman of Illyria who has lost her brother before the beginning of the play. She has vowed to herself to stay in mourning for seven years and refuses to see anyone outside of her home. That is until she speaks with Cesario, who she then falls in love with.
Duke Orsino- The Duke of Illyria who is madly in love with Olivia. He hires Cesario as his page and sends him to confess his love to Olivia. However, the more time he spends with his favorite page, the more drawn he is to him. When it is later revealed that Cesario is Viola in disguise, he takes her as his wife.
Malvolio- An incredibly vain steward in Olivia’s household. When he ruins a get-together with Maria, Feste, Toby Belch, and Sir Andrew, Maria creates a love letter addressed to Malvolio from Olivia. Malvolio believes the letter and follows it’s requests, where he dresses like a fool and acts as one as well. This leads Olivia to thinking he has gone crazy, and she sends him away.
Maria- Olivia’s house servant, a witty young girl with a trick up her sleeve.
Sir Toby Belch- Olivia’s uncle. He has an up-lifting nature to him and is quite the party-goer.
Sir Andrew- A guest at Olivia in an attempt to woo her, but to avail, due to Olivia’s infatuation with Cesario. Because of this, Sir Andrew challenges Cesario to a duel.
Feste- A fool on behalf of Olivia’s household, one her father adored
Fabian- a servant of Olivia’s
Antonio- A friend of Sebastian, who helped him get to the Kingdom of Orsino.
Valentine- attendant to the Duke
Curio- Attendant to the Duke
Sea Captain- A friend to Viola, helps her assume the role of Cesario
